Therapy Sessions
During our initial assessment, we will explore what brought you to therapy and why now is the right time. We will work together to address your current difficulties and envision the changes you’d like to see by the end of our sessions. My approach is straight talking, supportive and motivational, tailored to your specific needs, ensuring a personalised time limited experience.
If you imagine a library full of books that contain your memories, my guess is that you won’t want to revisit all of them, some may contain happier thoughts, feelings and behaviours but my hunch is that you want to unpick the evidence that has contributed to you feeling as you do in the here and now. You will sense my authenticity and passion and we will focus on one book, starting with your next chapter…
Depending on the therapeutic modality we choose, I offer practical tools and techniques for you to apply outside our sessions. For instance, in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), I might suggest exercises to combat negative automatic thoughts. In sexually focused work, exercises might include abstaining from sexual contact to focus on building connection and gradually reintroducing touch with mindfulness.
My Methodology
My primary training is in psychodynamic therapy, which focuses on understanding the links between your past and present to resolve current issues. By exploring your thoughts, feelings, memories, and dreams, we can work together to uncover the root causes of your current challenges.
I use a Behavioural Systems approach to Couple Relationship and Sexual Problems looking at the dynamics between individuals, but I also integrate various methods to best suit each client’s needs or desires. Essentially it’s like when your roof is on fire and the therapist says I need to look down to the foundations of your house. We don’t - we need to put the fire out and see what is salvageable, how secure is your structure, which rooms would you like to explore?
We will collaborate closely to achieve a successful outcome, and while you may be gently challenged along the way, it’s important to remember that therapy is a space with secure boundaries designed for positive change. Your courage in bringing your vision to the table is invaluable, and together, we will work to truly address your concerns. My goal is to equip you with the tools you need to continue flourishing in all your relationships.
